Thekua

Thekua is a traditional Indian cookie originating from Bihar and Jharkhand, most famously prepared as a sacred offering during the Chhath Puja festival. Often called the "Indian Cookie," it is a deep-fried, crunchy delight made from a simple yet wholesome blend of whole wheat flour, jaggery (or sugar), and pure ghee.

Infused with the aromatic warmth of cardamom and the crunch of dry coconut, each piece is hand-pressed onto traditional wooden molds (Sancha) to create beautiful embossed patterns. Its signature "khasta" texture—crispy on the outside and crumbly on the inside—makes it a beloved, shelf-stable snack that perfectly balances rustic simplicity with rich, nostalgic flavor.
